Antonio Canova's 18th century masterpiece, Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss, inspired the form and narrative, while Henry Moore's boldness of shapes suggested the style of Moore’s Canova. Fabricated of silicon bronze sheet metal, the masterwork is sculpted using several forms that are welded together to achieve the final composition. Alexander manipulates the metal with a variety of mallets, hammering it out against forged anvils and other organic structures to give each shape definition. When each composite section is complete, Alexander seamlessly joins them together through a rigorous process of welding, grinding, re-welding, and polishing to produce the finished sculpture.
