Inspired by the bold forms of English modernist Henry Moore, and the neoclassical style of Antonio Canova, Alexander's bronze beauty pays homage to Canova’s 18th century masterpiece, Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss. The abstract figurative body of Psyche is a composite formed from several discrete elements welded together to achieve final composition. Fabricated from silicon bronze, Alexander creates each component of the sculpture by manipulating the metal with a variety of mallets, hammering it out against forged anvils and other keystone bases to mold and define its shape. When each section is complete, he seamlessly fuses the forms through a rigorous process of welding, grinding, re-welding and applying a traditional patina to produce the finished work.
